What is involved in the role of the Engineer Network Strategy? 

The Engineer Network Strategy reports to the Principal Engineer Network Strategy and is responsible for monitoring business performance, undertaking strategic analysis, modelling strategic opportunities, and providing strategic insights for the long-term development of the electricity network.

  • The main responsibilities of the role are to:
  • Facilitate business planning for Electricity Networks department
  • Undertake strategic asset management planning
  • Analyse data for network benchmarking
  • Investigate and model new strategic opportunities

What’s involved in the role of Engineer Network Strategy?

Facilitate business planning for Electricity Networks department

  • Coordinate the development of department and sections plans to ensure they support achievement of business objectives, aligning with the organisational strategic plan.
  • Coordinate department business plan performance reporting and monitoring.
  • Develop and use tools to track department and section plans including embedding KPIs into the tools.
  • Engage with department staff proactively, including running business planning workshops.

Undertake strategic asset management planning

  • Scan external environment and provide regular updates and strategic insights on industry developments and disruptors.
  • Develop scenarios to be considered in the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and produce energy, peak demand and distributed energy resource forecasts to reflect the scenarios.
  • Model and analyse industry disruption impacts on future electricity network investment and performance.
  • Undertake financial/commercial modelling to support strategic asset management planning.
  • Contribute to internal working groups considering the long-term future development of the electricity network, including facilitating the development of strategic responses.

Analyse data for network benchmarking

  • Collect, analyse and report on data to better inform investment decisions and Network Strategy positions.
  • Prepare dashboard/summary reports on key network metrics and publish within the Electricity Networks department.
  • Monitor and report on benchmarking trends and potential areas for business improvement.

Investigate and model new strategic opportunities

  • Assist with modelling of strategic opportunities, including opportunities that enhance the profitability and performance of the business as determined by the Manager Network Planning & Strategy or the GM Electricity Networks.
  • Provide support to organise and facilitate the smooth operation of the Network Strategy team.

What are we looking for in you?

  • Tertiary qualification/s in engineering
  • 2-5 years’ experience in the energy sector
  • Ability to undertake complex modelling and financial analysis
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and use relationship-management skills in order to build and maintain relationships and interface successfully across the business
  • Developed presentation skills, written, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to assimilate large amounts of information and distil strategic insights
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise
  • Strong analytical skills to inform strategy, tactics and plans

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics/accounting/finance
  • Asset management experience
  • Experience in analytical or commercial roles
  • Demonstrated change management skills
