What is involved in the role of Compliance Officer?

Reporting to the Contract Support Manager, The MG Compliance Officer is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, monitoring and review of Multinet project capital works program, ensuring compliance with the MG Safety Case. Consult with Service Providers, as well as internal stakeholders, to ensure adherence to the compliance requirements and audit performance.

In addition, participation in industry based forums and compliance groups is required in order to maintain an understanding of best practice work practices and compliance, as relevant to the Utilities sector.

The main responsibilities of the role are, but not limited to:

  • Support the development of minimum compliance required by Service Providers
  • Network and participate in industry based compliance forums
  • Liaise with service providers’ compliance groups
  • Ensure Service Providers are carrying out full compliance to Multinet Gas Standards
  • Ensure written reports and actions are undertaken in relation to events and incidents
  • Carry out technical investigations into gas related incidents when required in conjunction with other Multinet Gas departments
  • Prepare reports and recommendations in relation to non-compliance as required
  • Ensure the use of and compliance with the Multinet Gas Safety Case
  • Willing to analyse all the facts without making a snap judgment, and conduct interviews as required
  • Assist with the Contract Support Manager with other relevant duties as required

What are we looking for in you?

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years operational experience in a similar role
  • Tertiary / Technical qualifications in a related discipline
  • Detailed knowledge, understanding and experience with compliance and work practice policy development and implementation
  • Experience in undertaking work in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution network systems
  • Demonstrated high regard and understanding of safety and quality systems and principles
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, especially in relation to listening to and addressing the needs of Service providers
  • Proven interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated communications skills
  • Working knowledge of compliance regulatory regime in Australia
  • Ability to interpret policies and strategy and develop related procedures


  • Experience the Utilities sector
  • Experience in heavy/hazardous industry.
