The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Associate to join our well-established general insurance team on a full-time basis. This pivotal role focuses on defendant institutional abuse claims general liability claims and encompasses both casework and the crucial responsibility of mentoring and supervising junior lawyers within the practice area.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and manage a diverse caseload of defendant institutional abuse claims, ensuring exceptional client representation and successful outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with the legal team to develop strategic defence approaches and tactics.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior lawyers, assisting in their professional growth and development.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings with expertise and confidence.
  • Offer ongoing legal advice and support to clients throughout the entire litigation process.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent and a current New South Wales practising certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years' post admission experience in general insurance matters.
  • Strong command of Australian tort law, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to effectively mentor and supervise junior lawyers, fostering their growth and success.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with experts in multiple fields.
  • A commercial approach and ability to articulate and negotiate effectively; and
  • A strong, plain language communication style.
