Balanced with a strong internal emphasis on culture and values, we combine innovation with commercial savviness to deliver rewarding outcomes to all our clients.

The Opportunity

Our Financial Services Advisory practice is looking for a motivated and capable lawyer to join the team on a full-time basis. Based in our CBD office in Sydney, this role will work closely with the Principal in that practice, across a broad range of matters including:

  • Distribution arrangements and commercial ventures

During the last few years, the practice has become a leading provider of commercial, regulatory and governance legal advice to the financial services industry, particularly those in general insurance. Our clients include a broad range of participants in the Australian general insurance industry, and other financial services providers.

The work is interesting, varied, and demanding and as a member of the team, you will be comfortable with taking on a broad range of challenges.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 1 - 5 years' post admission experience, including time in private practice and a predominant focus on front-end advice work
  • At least a familiarity with Australian financial services law
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling a practical and commercial approach to be taken to advice and the identification of solutions
  • Confidence to deal directly with clients and work collaboratively with other practice groups
  • High degree of initiative, dedication and organisational ability with a strong client and commercial focus
  • Ability to manage a busy workload and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A strong, plain language communication style

In return, McCabes will provide you with the opportunity to work with a talented team in a flexible, inclusive, and innovative environment. We also promote a culture focused on the firm's values - integrity, excellence, and courage - that provides opportunities to develop and progress your career.

We are small enough to give you the personal attention and career development to help you reach your full potential, yet large enough to provide the challenge of diverse, high-quality work and clients.

Other benefits include:

  • Access to direct mentoring from senior lawyers of the firm
  • A competitive salary commensurate with experience
