The Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious litigator to join our government team on a full-time basis. This role will provide the opportunity to work across a diverse range of legally challenging and factually complex matters in the government sector focussing on intentional torts, coronial inquiries and public liability matters.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and manage a diverse caseload ensuring exceptional client representation and successful outcomes.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior lawyers, assisting in their professional growth and development.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings with expertise and confidence.
  • Offer ongoing legal advice and support to clients throughout the entire litigation process.

The successful candidate will be experienced in and enjoy working autonomously on matters while supervising and mentoring junior lawyers. Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent and a current New South Wales practising certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years' post admission experience in government litigation or general insurance matters.
  • Strong command of Australian tort law, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to effectively mentor and supervise junior lawyers, fostering their growth and success.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; and
  • A commercial approach and ability to articulate and negotiate effectively.
