Who are we?

Samaritans is a not-for-profit organisation who for over 30 years has been offering support to those in need including young people and families, those with disability or mental health challenges and the wider community. We have over 700 staff and more than 450 volunteers across the regions in which we work. The Samaritans values of Compassion, Integrity, Justice act as our tagline and describe the principles behind the work we do and the way we do it.

With programs expanding across the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie region we are seeking motivated individuals to join our teams in providing support to the people who we support through Enhanced Living Options in our accommodation services, our day programs and in home/outreach support.

What will you do?

The role of a Disability Support Worker at Samaritans is to provide positive, strengths based and person-centred support to enable the people who we support with a disability to access the community and achieve their goals.

We are seeking motivated and energetic individuals interested in supporting people with disabilities, to assist them with the challenges and opportunities that come with independence.

What is required?

Although we do not require applicants hold specific qualifications, a Drivers Licence and a current First Aid Certificate are required. As part of the recruitment process, preferred applicants must be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical and a criminal record check. Additionally, you are required to possess a current NSW Working with Children Check for paid employment.

Due to the nature of our services you must be able to work a 24 hour/7 day shift work roster as many of the people we support require us to be on site overnight, on weekends and at varying times of the day. Short shifts (two hours) are also sometimes requested by the people who we support.

These positions full under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 3. We are seeking both permanent and casual positions.
